Help with forge

Well I got some fire bricks from a local supplier that said they are rated to 2000+ degrees, I was going for a variation of the one brick forge. I took 4 bricks and cut the corner off of them and when put together, they form a 2.5 x 2.5 inch Diamond shaped opening all the way through, put a notch in the top right brick where it lays on the right bottom for the propane nozzle

am going to use banding material that is used in shipping and band the brick to gether and make a handle, do you all think that this will work, I placed them together last night with my benzomatic propane torch, turned it all the way up and adjusted the flame to bounce of the top left corner so that I could see it was swirling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in adv.

Never tried the little brick forges but it seems they would have to be pretty well sealed to get much stored heat. If yout looking to go cheap. Get one of the weed burners and plunk that in those bricks. It will get plenty hot.

Thx

Think I will try the weed burner, somebody said in the forums that they got one for around $18 and find a old propane 20 lb tank. I paid $26 for the torch from walmart. wish I had a gone with the weed burner instead. Oh well I am learning at least.

Thanx

I use a burner made by Rex Price. It's a simple venturi burner that works great on a small freon tank size forge. they run about a $100 and are all the burner you would ever need till you get into the welding range of heat. Where in Central Virginia do you live?

Yep.

I was going to suggest that you could just come by and i could help you build a forge. That's a good haul though.

I got bunches of questions I may take you up on the offer if i can get away from the family for a day.

What type where you thinking of?
What materials would we need(I need to bring)?I have a guy at a junk yard that seems interested in my knives maybe a trade could be struck.
How long do you think it would take(maybe drive down a saturday get there about noon, and have till about 7 is that long enough.

Thanx for the offer

A buddy and I put his together in 3 hrs using the T-rex burner. Darren Ellis sells all the forge making supplies. His website is a wealth of info also. Just let me know when you can get away and I'll be glad to help any way I can.
