I was wondering about this too, there's supposedly a group called M.O.B. Mid Ohio Blacksmiths but when I googled around and found their site it hadn't been updated in quite a while, so I wonder if they're still active.

I'm in Columbus, the Koval one will be really close, for the gun show the one in mansfield will probably be my best bet though they don't have dates listed yet.
Looks like you just missed the Akron one beebee58 though there's always next year. Maybe you can make it to one of the other locations. Last edited by AwP; 05-06-2004 at 12:31 PM. |

The good thing about these little local Ohio shows is they come often. Ya don't have to wait till next year, just till next month. They are also scattered about the same distance so you could hit em all if you wanted to. Altho they say gun show, where there are guns there are knives. I see more and more knives each time I go. Good people, lots of locals to meet. There is always a few custom makers at the Berea show. I met a journeyman bladesmith from Crooksville, Oh. last weekend. Gene Loro was his name. Nice Guy, purty work! Custom maker Bruce Gillespie comes about everytime the show is on. I met him thru buying slabs from his son off ebay. He has good prices and cuts his wood a little oversize to make sure he is more than fair.

I checked out Koval today, they have alot of cool stuff. I bought a little bit of steel and a phone number of a guy I'll be calling in a few days. I'll definately be going back there though I don't think I'll get steel there anymore. It seems expensive and they only carry flatstock which I don't care for as much.

1"x1/4" stock is a good size to use when looking for the satisfaction level you like. It gives you plenty of metal to hammer to shape and will make a good sized blade. Easy to find when round stock is scarce. Spark test some of that store bought agin' some tire iron steel and tell us how it compares....an post it down in the Outpost so as we don't have to take a beatin' for it.

I would have gotten the 1/4", but they were out of it. I don't have any tire iron steel, but I'll test it against all the scrap I'm using and post it down in the outpost.
