Twin hunters

This is a twin set (fraternal) of cocobolo hunters for a marine and his old bunk mate.
If i hadn't broken two carbide bits they would both have bolsters

the first has a sharp distal taper to the front and rear, it is made from aldo's 1084. differencially heat treated.
OAL 8.5" with a 3.75" blade
home made mosaic pins
Cocobolo handle
hand sanded to 800 grit
tooled 8OZ leather sheath

This one is also made from aldo's 1084 3/16"
OAL 8.5" with a 3.5" blade
SS bolster
home made mosaic pins
Cocobolo handle
hand sanded to 800 grit
tooled 8OZ leather sheath

Beautiful job on the fit and finish, Jason! I like the original choil cutout and the leather looks terrific. If I have any criticism at all it would be that the handle and guard might benefit from even more rounding than is already evident ...

I agree with you on the roundness near the guard. It does round more the further it gets away from the guard. But this was my first time installing bolsters on a knife and i was worried that if i took any more material off the bolster the pins would not have enough lip to hold everything together. Being that i ruined 2 carbide bits to get those drilled, and my deadline was so close I couldn't chance messing those ones up. Even though it looks blocky, it felt really nice in the hand.

Top shelf finish for sure, and I echo the comments on rounded features. I really like knives to have less mechanical and more organic feels--but that's just me. They look awesome!

On a side note, 5 more minutes of file work, and the choil on the first one would be an awesome bottle opener!

I'm with Ray on the corner rounding. Have picked up and used a lot of "squarish" handled knives that felt very good in the hand........initially. Take the knife out and use it for 30 minutes to an hour and you will find your hand has some hotspots maybe even blisters (if not a conditioned user). That will tell you where and how you need to shape your handle. I realize a lot of folks will not use a knife that long at a time, but if you happen to give/sell to someone that does, well, they won't use it long.

It is a very handsome knife with nice detail and functional design. It should be used.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. The only thing better than complements from the customer is a good peer review. I'm not too disappointed as it was the first time I tried it, I will work on the rounding on V2.0
