Help With big Horn Sheep Scales
Hey Guy's,
I just used my frist Big Horn Sheep on a folder and buffed them with Jaackson 51 white. Before I clean them with something that might harm the horn. Could a couple of you pass on what is safe to clean the lower surface areas with. I promes to post a picture when its complete. Thanks JIm Last edited by jim graham; 08-03-2007 at 05:58 PM. |

I've always uses tooth paste and a toothbrush(stiff bristle or hard). Not alot of water. All of the knives I did were fairly large and I like that natural horn look.Other people may have a better method.

I have buffed them, finished out with sandpaper, beginning with 600 grit and going up in grit with sandpaper. I usually hit the buff as a last measure.

Thanks Guy's,
Your feed back did help and I will try your experiance and idea's. I've been looking at Ed Fowlers book in the mean time and from the pictures I looked at in their; I think I'll take the horn down a little thinner. Right now I'm about .250 at the butt of the folder and tapering towards the bolsters with a chamfer right at the bolster. I'll go a little thiner and still have quit a bit of ruff grove left for natural beautie. This time I'll sand to finish and use the tooth brush to clean before I remove any material. thanks Jim Last edited by jim graham; 08-04-2007 at 11:12 PM. |
