There are two criteria that *most* programs can change in resizing digital images:
1. Pixel width - the actual size that will be displayed on the computer screen. 2. Compression - This adjusts the file size by tayloring the amount of compression that an image gets. By it's properties .JPG (or JPEG) files are utilized almost universally in digital web photos because there is a handy compression algorythm that reduces the files. (Simply put it combines blocks of pixels of the same color as one byte unit, instead of a byte for each pixel.) Somewhere in all the photo software packages I have worked with is an area that allows you to change the default settings for compression. For web display, nothing larger than 60% makes any visual difference, and under 40% is a very apparent loss visually. You should be somewhere in this range. In order to attach and be under the 52kb limit that is imposed here on KN, use an image no larger than 500 pixels wide and keep increasing the compression untill it is less than 50kb. What program do you have? Coop |
