Another Bug Knife - Ironwood Scarab...

Ironwood Scarab...
RWL-34 is the steel. The dagger blade is approximately 3 1/2" long, over all length is a little over 8". The dagger is hollow ground on one side to the edge (chisel grind) to give it a more depth. The ironwood is secured by hidden pins to the top layer of steel. The middle spacer and base is ebony and secured by screws. I did the heat and cryo on this one. Since it is a chisel grind, the edge is 1/2 the degrees of a typical edge, so it is delicate but very sharp. This one has already seen first blood drawn by those pointy 'mandibles' during construction. A few more bugs to go and I can get back to 'normal' knives. Thanks for looking...

Edited to add this photo, I'm working on learning Photoshop...

To what do you attribute this wave of inspiration? Did Tai Goo send you some of those magic peppers?

Very nice, Tracy!

Yeah, Tracy, whatever you're on, I'd like 2... ! Awesome work there. So simple, yet it just jumps out as artistic, tasteful ...

I was thinking that if the top piece with the "mandibles" could be detached, you'd have a knife anf fork set.

Great work. I think you should make a point of creating a few of these regularly. Not sure about you but that will keep many of us entertained ! Jason.

Wow! That is cool! There really is something new under the sun. I would not be surprised to see that you have spawned your crop of imitators.

Tracy, my friend---what in-ell are you smoking lately? You ought to pass some of it around if the results are going to be that fantastic. I like whatever you create for the creativity and imagination involved. "Eye candy" of the highest order! --Sandy--

Thanks guys. You've been pretty kind to me on these....

I'm not on the dope but if Tai invites me over to his sweat lodge, I might go.

It is Scarab only on one side to answer Pauls question. It rests on an attached base of ebony. It's half the work that way but then who's heard of a two side Scarab?

I'm doing these for a couple reasons: A) They are fun as hell to make. 2) I make sure I try a at least one new techinique I haven't used before to learn something and C) I wanted to force myself to do something I had never done before to grow a little....

I like it , Tracy, Have you ever thought of making the fork looking scrab seperable from the knife? A hunter/camper would then have one tool that is his knife and unusual fork.
