You don't often see that offer by a reseller! Don't know that I'd want the knife, but I'd probably pay to see him eat it.

Does it strike anyone else that this doesn't look like a particularly comfortable knife? Maybe that explains why it wasn't used much.

Interesting find. And 'made completely of the early Iron-rich type of steel,' is this the seller's way of describing shear steel, crucible steel, or what? Last I checked, all steel was iron-rich Someone enlighten me, please

maybe he meant to say carbon rich. I would like to hold this one to see how it feels.

I just visited the thread by Buddy Thomason on 1 million dollars worth of bowies (in this forum) and looking at his photos, I wonder if this knife is really old. The mottled patina on this one is really uniform, not like the look of those authenticated old bowies at all. I may well be wromg, but this one looks like it has been aged uniformly by some etching process.

I'd like a Tutorial Please! The patina does look a little on the contrived side. The rust on the knife seems on the surface without any pitting except the guard. I did not notice any wear on the point or the cutting edge either, is that a comman trait for such knives? What would you expect to find on a true period piece and what's a good way to rule out a replica?

Not to say that it's a fake, but I can reproduce that finish with mustard out of my refridgerator and 00000 steel wool. He also mentions the whitesmithing on the knife, but makes no mention of silver anywhere on the it (a whitesmith is a silversmith, historically). Bidders beware!
