functional guards
hello everyone I need some advise on guards for a sword. It has to be able to take hits. any ideals? btw this is a viking style.:confused:

Viking sword guards all seem to be heavy but don't protrude much from the blade. I'd say they'd take hits but our ancestors must have had pretty tough knuckles...
We might have some SCA types here who've been daft enough to spar with Viking style swords and who could chime in.... Roger |

GANN - from your post I can't tell if it's a "real" sword you are working on? The above link has a good cross section of styles if so. You say it must take hits???? Please clarify! these will be training swords made of air craft aluminum.They will
