Eloi Pernet "Coin Knife"

It's not that old, probably 25 years or so, but it's something I got as part of a trade and have never thought much about. I looked the company up on the internet and found out they have quite a history. Currently their line up is mostly cigar cutters and related fancy-dan accessories. The coin knives are sort of interesting though. Here's the picture followed by some text from the web-site. I have no idea what it may have cost or would be worth today. I'm trying to get these 'miscellaneous' items in my collection photographed and organized so I can start selling them. Anybody know anything else about these Eloi Pernet knives?



"In the early nineteenth century the region of Nogent-Bassigny became an important center for French cutlery. By 1880, more than six thousand people were manufacturing knives, scissors, surgical instruments and hand tools. Each community had its specialty. Biesles, situated 10 km from Nogent, became the center for luxury items, folding knives and cigar cutters. Charles Louis Eloi Pernet belonged to the third generation of knife makers in Biesles. In 1901, at the age of 12, he became an apprentice in a local cutlery. It was not until 1920 that Eloi decided to establish his own factory, - Eloi Pernet. With a small group of the best artisans he could find, Eloi quickly became renown for its craft. In 1925 Eloi won the "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (Best Craftsman of France) award for a multi-blade knife. The following year, he and his artisans again won the "Meilleur Ouvier de France" award. The World began to take notice as Hermes, Dupont, Vuitton, and Dunhill all sought Eloi's fine craftsmanship.

By 1937 Pernet had won first prize in the "Arts & Techniques" contest in the Expositions Universelles de Paris. In 1959, Eloi obtained the Medaille d'Or de "Qualité France" (gold medal of "Quality France"). Charles Pernet died in 1963, leaving behind a unique discipline for quality and fine craftsmanship.

Today Eloi Pernet continues its long lived work in both Bieseles and Nogent. With a handful of highly skilled craftsmen, Eloi has been able to maintain the precision, elegance and quality which has distinguished it for so many years. The designs have remained classic, preserving the 1920 art deco style which had brought Eloi Pernet to fame so many years ago."

No, no! I'm just wanting to move the "miscellaneous" stuff I don't care much about. This would be one of those items I just don't have much feeling for. You want it? It's very French, as they say.

I would never ever refuse such a fine knife, especially from the Esteemed "Thomason" collection! But alas, I'm afraid that type of knife is beyond my hobby's (read "Piggy Bank") limits
Whew! Good to know you're not selling out, jumping on your bike, picking up Roc and heading out to Ray Rogers, never to be seen again!
