date on J-rogers!
Hi all, I thought you all would be interested in this. This is a joseph rogers and sons pocket knife my wife gave me one day. She found it at a flea market for $20.00.
So I was wondering if some one here could date this knife for me. I love this knife I keep it on the bench, every time I go to cut somthing with it I put it back down so I dont hurt it. she's beat up good looks like the tip was worn down from sharpening. I dont have the hart to put an edge on her, knowing she will loose more material from this. I may just make a copy of her and use that. the handle apears to be horn, the blade is 2.375" and the total length is 6.25" thanks for your help Darrin. Purty old gal. Nice to see the respect in which you hold her. That cross and star mark was granted to Rodgers in 1682 . If the bolster is iron and intergral to the liner would indicate it was made before 1860. Altho, most kicks were square in that time period Stick matches were popular around that time (1830-60) so the match striker long pull nail nick seems to fit. So, I can definitly say that I am 100 percent unsure. As for the pattern I think it could be classed as a barehead jack, or an English jack.

HI HAMMER.Thanks for the reply I don't check back soon enough sorry about that.
this is what I got two shots. the first is the square kick as you stated. I thought it was just old and lost that closing snap. Now the bolster I am unsure if this is seperation of two seperate parts or lamination efect. take a look tell me what you think. I was also thinking a spay pattern . All help and comments would be appreciated thanks darrin. Last edited by darrin clause; 10-21-2006 at 09:17 PM. |
