Japanese Arrowhead

Im making a Japanese arrowhead, or Yajiri, Ive inclosed some photos.

Im curious if anyone knows what the size range was on these. From what Ive found, There are a wide variety of shapes and sizes, but I feel like Im still on the large side of things.

There are 2 weld flaws, that are actually where I kept the "barbs" spread open. I plan on removing these either thru the design, or with piercing or file work.

If anyone has any suggestions or opinions, good or bad, please let me hear them!! I think I have a bad case of Arrowhead makers block!!

Im very happy with the way it welded up, just been looking at too many Samauri Arrowheads I guess!! This one hasnt started to "Sing to me" yet! Mabe if I am patient, it will be soon!

I posted a question a while back about decorative arrow heads and here's one now. Since I don't run a forge all I can do is look on in envy.

A forge or a torch, neither one is good in the spare bedroom thats my shop. I'd be out from CO2 within minute

I would think that if you had a thick enough piece of stock to allow a diamond cross section, (wouldnt have to be that thick actually) cut out your shape, do your piercing, scroll work or what ever, then grind the bevels. there ya go, no forge needed!

OK Dan, Your killing me here!!

I thought I was close to being happy with the design that took me most of the evening last nite to draw up at the motel!! Now I have to start over!! LOL

Back to the drawing board!! Thanks for posting those Dan, They are some really cool designs. But I thought we were making arrowheads, not frisbees!

I just got back from Japan and saw a few arrowheads in museums and at antique fairs. Your arrowhead looks to be a bit on the large size compared to the ones I saw. The forked ones I saw were about 1-1.5 inches wide and about the same length. The tangs are actually a square cross section and taper way down. However, there is a really wide range of different of sizes and shapes of Japanese arrowheads, so one like yours is not out of the question. The fancy ones with all the piercing work are around 2 inches long.
