I scanned some pictures of the sword I was talking about from Viking Dublin, I have very little information about it, and the picture I have spans two pages of a book so I couldn't scan an image of the entire blade. It really has the look of a short sword to me though it dosen't describe the demensions in the book. It also has no fuller. I'm pretty sure I saw this sword in person at the Irish Museum in Dublin about five years ago. I find the narrowness of the gripp quite interesting the ferules are barely wider than the tang. the lamination is also very curious, no twisting, it looks almost like raw Iron or mabe just laminated and forged on edge. I'm thinking about doing a version of this sword with like a twenty layer laminated billet forged on edge.
anyway, this is the only viking shortsword I've come across, mabe it is an Irish variant, they always had a predilection for short swords all the way back to the La Tene period.

Jake,

the thin grip, to allow for beefing up with leather to get the grip where you want it?

It's out of place, but I undersize the grip on my tennis racket so that when I hit it with grip tape it gets to the size I am most comfortable with.
