Making Damascus in 1771
Found this.

I should remember to check on Mr Emeriau's site more often, he hadn't included that last time I looked, but then the update was in 2000, so I must have missed it. Translation by one Mr Bernard Levine too I suppose we often forget that Damascus steel was in use in gun barrels well into the 19th century, we just don't often find reference to Damascus knives and swords of that time.
