Wood stabilization

Hi David,

I have some Birdseye maple I want to stabilize(wit WSSI) but I am concern that it's only 5/16" thick and if it'll warp badly there no enough meat to fix it. I have 30 scales of it so it'll be a shame to waste it like that. This maple has been drying for years in somebody's garage.
What do you think?

Thanks

Main person to ask is Mike at WSSI. I did send some wood to him a couple of times and his advise is always to cut it as close to scales as possible for the best processing and least waste. I sent 1/4" spruce and didn't have any warping, some raised grains but no warping.

Also check out K&G, never sent anything to them but they have a great rep.

Jim

you can expect some warpage. how much i think it depends on what the material is, time of the year and a few other things in there to. I am told that some material warps worse than others like antler, bone and ivory is quite bad, horn being the worst as it has no 'memory'. What I do is just send in blocks then cut off what you need.

You don't have to send all 30 pieces at one time ......
