Lightbulb Midwest Knifemaker's Association

Hello folks; I'm going to post this here and then link to it from the other forums. Ed, I hope this is okay.

A buddy of mine suggested we see about forming a knifemaker's association in Iowa. We are a rare breed here! As it turns out, there's been some interest from surrounding states too, so with that in mind I thought I'd put this up to see if there's anyone else out there who would be interested in such a thing. What do you think?

If anyone has any experience in establishing an association, we'd sure appreciate your ideas and guidance on what to do first...second...etc. We've talked about a gathering to demonstrate and shoot the breeze and do show and tell, put up a website, publish a newsletter, share ideas - like that.

I look forward to hearing from any and all on this one.

Dave

Hi Dave

You can count me in.

I am afraid that I have no experience in the areas necessary to make such a thing happen though. I will however do some looking so see if I can find some helpful information.

I posted on the other forum. It sounds like good idea.
There are many in Missouri that will be interested , I am sure.
Not knowledgeable as to what other groups require to belong ,or how to form a group, but I will be willing to help.

That's great! There's always more work than people to do it on stuff like this. Assuming this gets off the ground, we'll need to find someone to build and host a web site, someone to coordinate a newsletter, etc. In fact, we'd need officers, because none of the three of us getting this running is particularly interested in heading it up... We just want to hang out with a bunch of other makers a couple times a year.

Well, if you're accepting newbies, I'd love to sign up! I don't have any idea on how to set up an association (etc), but I've been known to write an article or two from time to time.

Of course, it's much MUCH easier to just hang out with a bunch of makers, right?
