Hi Nathan good to see you around here.

I don't do tapered tangs but as far as i know you don't have to taper yuor scales to. Just treat the taperead tangs the same as usual.

i'm sure someone better equipt. to answer will come along soon.

Nathan,
Just make sure you're scales are nice and flat. You'll also have to play with the angle where the scales meet the guard. If your disk sander has a rest I would recommend using it rather than a grinder to make this angle fit.
It looks nicely balanced when the scales taper the opposite direction as the tang. This is done when forming the handle after it's all glued up. Hope that made sense.

john
My disc does not have a rest I free hand ground them
I have been thinking about building a rest for it the disc
has a slight taper from the front to the back of the disc that helps with tapering the tangs, rob frink made it for me
it did not charge me anything,he just wanted to see how they worked, they are slick to work with.
Thanks nathan

Nathan,
you can set the angle easy enough with a belt grinder. I don't have a rest on my disk grinder either but thought the disk with a rest would give a better fit.

Thanks for the input I am going to make one for it ,free handing is pretty easy but with a rest you would be able to do a little better job, mine only goes on direction, one side is easy the other side I have to push hard againts the disc to keep
it from jumping around.a rest on that side would make it a little eaiser.
