Randy Havard Kit Knives-Photos
I was recently contacted by Randy Havard, asking me to take a look at some of his first kit knives. Until he gets himself setup for his own picture posting, I offered to post these photos for him (I've already given my detailed comments to Randy). As evidenced by these photos, Randy has obviously jumped into kitknife making with both feet!
I'll post the pics and let Randy describe the knives. Here's the first, a GPC-1000 Here's a GX6 with heavy-duty filework: And three shots of a might cool DDRII: Randy's to be congratulated on an absolutely terrific beginning...With a start like this, it's very clear that we can expect to see only great things from him in the future. Well done Randy! Dennis Greenbaum Yeah Baby! Last edited by Osprey Guy; 11-04-2004 at 10:25 PM. |

Congrats, Randy! They look great and I know you spent a lot of time making them.
It's been a while since we had some fresh booty in here. Thanks, Dennis! Coop __________________ Jim Cooper - Capturing the Artistry and Significance of Handmade Knives ?? New website improvement for 2010 - Over 5000 images searchable by maker's name! ?? |

Hmmmm...I'm looking at right them.
Are you getting the dreaded "red X's"? Anyone else having trouble? My photo host (Club Photo), does get kinda quirky on me every now and then. I've been using them for about two years with (mostly) good results. Dennis Greenbaum Yeah Baby! |

I'm not getting them either. No red x's or anything, although I see where they should be, I think.
Thanks Richard |

It's still looks fine on my end, but I went back in anyway and reduced the size of a few of the images. They may have been causing the difficulty.
Hopefully that was the fix. Try it now. Dennis Greenbaum Yeah Baby! |

I got them this time, at least most of them. I did only get one of the DDRII. Thanks for resending. Yeah, I'm still using dial-up, maybe that's a problem.?
Anyway, WOW Randy you did a great job. Please fill us in a little on the details, o.k? Thanks, Richard |

My Knives
Thank you one and all for all the kind words regarding my efforts presented here. Some of you would like a little more details on the knives. Here goes: the first one is a DDR2 I made for a friend at work. She was looking for a knife with tourquoise, but in a manageable size. I used a composite material I got from Jantz Knife Supply for the spine and handle highlights. The file work was one of my first attempts at something I hadn't seen before. It didn't turn out as well as I would have Liked but she was happy. The pocket clip is something I was verry happy with. I thought it would be neat to create an arrowhead with napped edges in it. As you can see it came out OK.
The secon knife I did for a new friend who is supplying me with free exotic wood. He uses it to build banks with antique U.S. Postal doors. I said I would make him a knife in return for all the wood he donated to me and this is th result, a GPC1000 with Bacote scales. There is some minor file work on the liners in a zipper type pattern. I was most pleased with the tight fit of the bolster to scales, and I was able to mirror immage the scales pretty good. The final knife was my most elaborate attempt. The scales are giraffe bone. The spine is file worked as well as the liners. I also set a citrine in the thumbstud. All in all, a verry fancy dagger. I hope everyone likes them. I will try to post more efforts in the future. I just wish I could figure out this picture posting bussiness. |
