forging cast iron pipe
Hi all,
working on a project to enhance my forge. Im adding a "air-curtian" to the open ends that will force a current of air perpendicular to the openings of the forge to allow me better access to the forge itself and help direct the hot gases and CO towards my exhaust vent above the forge better. My question is , im using 2" black pipe, non-coated, can i heat up the end that will be by the forge and compress the diameter of the pipe,. to make it more square in shape in my vise??,, or because of the casting process, will it crumble ..? i dug around but didnt see anything in particular on cast iron and forging in particular.. if i missed a post my appologies .. hehe thanks |

If it's regular black pipe, it's not "cast" iron, it's... I donno, regular iron. Cast iron will crack and is unforgable, but I forged the end of some black pipe shut, so it's definately forgable.
