Two new Bowies
Man, with the quality of work that's been shown here lately, I hesitate to post pics any more.
Plus, I'm having a heck of a time getting good shots. I don't have an indoor setup with nice lighting, and the weather has been rainy and horrible around here for the last few days. But, what the heck. Here's two new ones that were just finished. One is more-or-less a loose interpretation of a traditional older style Bowie, and the other has a more modern look. Old Style The Blade forged from 1084 and is differentially heat-treated. The blade is 8" with a sharpened curved clip. The oval guard and ferrule are fileworked Damascus of 1084 and 203E. The handle is African Blackwood. I noticed in the shot above that there appears to be a line at the ricasso/guard joint that looks like I didn't get a real close fit. It's actually a reflection of some sort, because the fit is good. Let's zoom in a bit. The shot above is closeup of the ricasso / guard / ferrule area. #### Modern Again, the blade is forged from 1084 and differentially heat-treated. The blade is 8" with a sharpend straight clip. The guard is Nickel Silver, and the handle is stabilized Curly Maple from Ken McFall of K&G. |

Terry,
As usual with all of your work that I've seen, this is 2 more beautiful pieces. Nothing like good, clean, crisp lines on a knife. Keep up the good work and keep posting. Lynn Drury Poteau, Ok |

Terry -- glad you told us which is the "old style" and which is the "new" -- I'd have thought they were both just "classic"

Terry,
I like 'em both, but I really like the first one. That damascus guard with the groove in it really pushes my buttons. Well done! |

Terry,
Still waiting for the old style one to load but thought I'd reply first. The one with the curly maple looks like your normal excellent bowie, your pictures are first rate as far as I'm concerned just wish they'd speed up a bit. Still can't see old style one yet and thats the one I'm wanting to see the most. Your work is always first class! |

Your "normal" excellent ...
Terry, your bigger knives look just as good as your smaller, personal ones. Is the Damascus on the fittings some of yours ?
What gets me is that the handle shape on the "classic" one is so simple yet looks so good. Handles like those I've found are really comfy. The second one is really "you." You've gotta keep them coming. Always amazing, always entertaining. Cheers. __________________ JASON CUTTER BLADEART Jason Cutter @ Dr Kwong Yeang Knifemaker, Australia (Matthew 10.16) |

Terry: So this is your idea of having difficulty getting a decent picture? Not only are the knives of your usual excellence, but the pictures really show what's there. Seeing this kind of stuff makes me glad, once again, to be part of this community. Thanks for the show.

Someday I hope to come close to the quality of work you do. That first one is sweet and the second one is a keeper too.

Pure class!
Such simple designs and smooth lines and they just yell PRIMOS. There are plenty of makers who wouldn't wand to show a close-up like that one of the ricasso and guard on the traditional knife, but then not everyone can display that ultra-precise work. SRJ watch out Roger |
