What do you think of this handle?

I teach a knifemaking class at a craft school that has a lot of jewelers there. They use an etching technique that I have learned to do and I wanted to know what you thought of the results.

The scales of this knife are bronze and they have been selectively etched. I then enameled the background and satin finished the flats to get better contrast. They are starting to patina nicely. The patterns you could etch are limitless, anything form art deco, to roman to Japanese.

Let me know what you think. Should I leave them or switch them out for bolsters and pearl or ivory scales?
Thanks,
Chuck

I really like it ! A beautiful and distinctive look. Why change it? I'd say leave like it is and call it good!

take care,

Tom

Chuck,
Beautiful, timeless classic design. I love it.
What acid and mask did you use on the bronze, if you don't mind sharing?
Best regards, John.

It has a "roughish" look to it - totally different from all other types of work. Different is good!

Shakudo, many thanks for the link. I have read a quick and dirty overview of the proceedure in a book that lacked a lot of detail. This made the process a lot clearer and, of course, the PNP blue paper looks like it might make the process easier.

Those of you who read this link, go to near the bottom of the page and where the word "etch" in underlined is another link that expands on the proceedure. Just click on the word.
