fitting scales to bolsters

Any hints on getting a real tight fit on scales to bolster other
than patience and perseverance. Having trouble with gps-1000.
thanks.

tight fitting to bolsters

I was having the same problem and although pateince and perserverence are definitely required, I found that going back and ensuring that all my equipment was square was a great help. I do not know the kit you are working on but it should hold true for any fitting of bolster to scales.

You can still get a great fitup even if your equipment is not perfectly square. Lets say there is an angle on your grinder. We don't really care how much, just that there is an angle. If you grind the edge of your bolster on the grinder, you will get that same angle on your bolster. By taking your handle material and grinding it on the same grinder without changing anything you get the same angle on the handle material. Now just turn the handle material over and it will match the bolster exactly.

Got some talc?
Use powder to fit them up.
Just put powder on the scales and touch them to the bolster.
This will show you where you need to take stock off to make the fit.

Jibeset,

Welcome to the CKD. Glad you joined. Please give us a name to answer to sometime. I like people, not usernames!

One of the crazy things about the GPC curves is there is an angled straight line between two radiuses. Invariably, because of the extra length of the diagonal, it requires a variance of amount of material removed here than on the relatively parallel curves.

I think you answered it best. Perseverence. The other guys tips are pretty valid, too.

Keep at it and let us know!

Coop

Thanks for the prompt responses. I'm sure that it will help.
Can't wait to give the talc idea a try. Appreciate the advice.
