I would like to know if you are using 1095 and 15n20 to make a billet does it matter whicH steel is on the outside or inside of a billet?

I would make sure the 1095 or the thickest metal is the start and end of the billet. Thinner on outside will bend away making that piece harder to weld to billet.

Thanks for that info.............it makes sense having the thickest metal on the outside.

I use 1080 and 15n20. If you are going to weld ,draw out, cut, and restack to gain layers.I start with one and end with the other. If you doen't you will have a wider layer with each piece you stack.
