just finished this Dagger...

This is a customer design. But I coulden't help myself and dressed up the guard and buttcap (Hope he likes it)I still have the throat and tipped sheath to make for it tonight. It kind of has a Medieval look to it in my opinion.I will have to get Donna to model all the newest knives this weekend since the pictures have been taken while she is sleeping.

The specs are:
5 3/4 inch double edged and forged 5160 blade, hand rubbed to 2000 grit then polished off with notebook paper. The gyard was 3 inches before the bend making it 2 1/2 inches across,I hand shaped the sides and carved the shells with hand files, hand made the ferrules that are 1/2 inch across them and made the buttcap by making a ferrule and attaching the but plate to it then fileworking the edges. Then I hand turned the water buffalo horn handle pieces to 3/4 inch across and turned in the ends so they have sections that fit inside the ferrules thus a very strong handle since the tang goes all the ay through and is bolted in place with a nut under the buttcap, the handle is 4 1/4 inches long..

Please give me your comments on this one,
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce, when you said "I hope he likes it" you were joking right?

It's a great knife, & if the customer doesn't like it...

...I'll have to take it off your hands

No I wasn't kidding...He had a plain "s" shaped guard that was 3/4 inch wide all the way withh just rounded over ends and a plain flat buttcap that was 1/8 inch thick.I kind of got carried away with the embelishments and just sent him the pictures via email before I posted these here and so I haven't heard back from him on it yet...So I hope he does like it or else I will be contacting you Colin..

I feel like Im repeating myself here having said basically the same thing 3 times already in other threads but
WOW
thats really nice
the filework on the guard with the shells looks really nice
the grind of the blade looks really well done as well
if the customer dosnt want it sell it to me
8-)
(damm hang on I dont have enough money and customs would take it when it came into the country cause they dont like daggers)

Bruce, you did get fancy but we need to do that every now and then, part of the fun of knifemaking. A very very neat knife, classy.

That's great work, Bruce. You do really well with the shell work. This guard, shell buttcaps, it's all beautiful. I also like the plate at the joint of the blade and guard. Nice touch. Buffalo horn is nice to work, and when finished, it's pretty too. I like it. Very nice.

Colin,
What would you do with a knife like that? It sure is pretty though.

LOL, not much to do with it in my country Ray, but it'd be nice to have it anyway, especially if I knew it was mine 'cos someone else had no soul
