anneal d2???
:confused: how can I anneal d2 I need to drill for pins?? thanks

Here is what my book says:
Annealing: heat slowly to 1600 degrees and hold for a minimum of 1 1/2 hrs to 6 hrs depending on size of part. Cool at a rate of 40 degrees per hour to 1000 degrees. Cooling rate below that is not critical. |

Cliff,
Before you go through the lengthy process of annealling, heat treat, temper, temper, etc. why don't you get a carbide drill bit? I have occasionally heat treated a blade before I was ready and had to do the same thing. Gary |

Cliff, masonary bits work too. I just don't know if they make them in the size you need.
