Next meeting?
When and where is the next GCKA meeting? I know an email will go out, but I'm trying to plan ahead so I might actually make it to one! Thanks in advance,

Ryan, sorry that this is late in coming. We are still trying to tie down some details about the demonstrations and a few other things. I hope to put up a detailed post this weekend.
Here is the quick version: The next Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild meeting will be hosted by Charlie and me at the Twin Blades shop in Statesboro. It will be held on the 10th of February. The board meeting will begin at 8:00 and the general membership meeting will begin at 9:30(or whenever Carl lets us out of the board meeting). A few people have expressed an interest in starting early on Friday the 9th with a "mini hammer-in", so bring what you have if you want to beat up some steel. We will be there from early till late with a hot forge and plenty of steel, if someone wants to give it a try. We are planning on having a social on the night of the 9th for those that arrive in the "Boro" early. If we are lucky, we will be able to get Charlie's son Bland to grill something for us. We did this last year and had a ball! As always it helps to have an idea of how many to prepare for, so if anyone can let us know that they will be there, it would really help. Access to a map and directions will be provided later, as well as a list of some convenient hotels. We have one member that is planning on camping out and that is fine too. We have plenty of room and hope we can get all the Georgia knifemakers to come. |

You won't regret it Stephen. Bring your bloom to show off if you like.
Tony can even come if he'll behave. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

I plan on being there. Bringing my wife too... however, I think she plans on shopping in Savannah vs forging some steel.

Hey Randy
I like your wife's idea. But I guess I'll be at the meeting. Tell her to be sure and go to River Street. |

I just rang in the New Year and am looking forward to 2007 and a continued association with some of the finest people I have ever known. God Bless each and every member of this guild. You are all important to me! ---Sandy---

That's right---come on up. We will enjoy your company and you will enjoy our southern hospitality. The Mathews have the best place in these parts for a meeting and last year the only thing that out did the food was the quality of the meeting and the demos.
See you there. |

Sure, you're welcome to attend. I think you will find the people and the hospitality to your liking. I noticed on your profile sheet that you are interested in forging/bladesmithing. I've been asked to give a short discussion on general bladesmithing and forge safety.
You'll meet some super nice, extremely talented people, see a very nicely appointed shop, and eat well to boot. Please be sure to single me out so I can welcome you in person. One thing is for certain we talk knives. Bring some you've made and/or any knife related project you are currently working on. The Guild is a wealth of consolidated knowledge and experience so bring your questions also. You will have the opportunity to try and win a free custom knife and if you want to bring some item for the iron in the hat drawing, you might wind up taking home some valuable plunder (maker supplies). While we're not planning any forging demos for the Saturday meeting, a number of us (as you probably read above) will be doing a bit of forging on Friday, if you care to come up early. Hope you can make it up. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
