If you have a habor frieght near you then try thier india files. I say this because they are the hardest files I have found (my opion not fact). But nichlson file will be of a higher quality over all, just not as hard, and considered by many be the best. Plus nichlson has more patterns too. Don't forget that there are cuts to files, bastard, second, smooth, and finish. If you use them right you can go into hand sanding right away depending on what your doing.
good luck

Nick,

Try www.victornet.com. I have been told by Bob Ouellette that there files are good and the prices are great. He does most of his work with files so I will be ordering some myself. Hope this helps.

Nicholson Magicut, the biggest you can find. Followed by long-angle lathe files by Nicholson, Simmonds, or Weller. Long files equal more stock removed per stroke, and the larger the file, the coarser the teeth for a given grade. I regularly use 14" files on small blades, don't think you can't!
