"Model of the Week" (Week no. 10 Model 10)
Just dropping by; thought I?d start up the #10 model of the week thread if no one minds? Gary
Here are a few: #10-5 Micarta handle, with sheath? #10-5 next to #10-3 rosewood handle? A couple of #10-3s, both styles? And a closer look at the rosewood (bottom) and Micarta handles? In the sheath? And #10-3 next to a pocket folder for comparison/ reference? |

Hi Gary!
Thanks for starting this thread. You have some neat tens there, and I'm partial to the Rosewood handled one. I'm still minus 10, but this model knife looks like a practical cutter. I'm sure there are other variations out there that folks would like to show. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

This is sort of an interesting #10.
No "s" stamp so it's probably 60's. No finger groove in the handle...... And it's made to sheath "logo side out"...... sort of curious. Last edited by tunefinK; 10-31-2005 at 09:02 PM. |

Mitchell, the "no S" , no finger groove and straight stamp parallel with the top of the blade are all different from my newish 10-7 but, if I put my 10-7 in a left handed sheath , it would be logo OUT too.

I don't usually hold on to newer Randalls, but this one is pretty special. It was John Gay's back up knife. John is the Navy Seal who's Model 15 protected his hip from an AK47 round in the Mog documented in "Blackhawk Down".

Hi samc! (not to be confused with samg )
to the Knife Network! Thanks for posting your model 10's and pointing out the differences between the older and newer versions. You should be able to use the attachment button after the 24 hour waiting period. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! Thanks David. As I understand it (Sheldon posting many years ago) the single pin 10-3 are 440b and double ATS-34 stainless steel. 5 and 7 with 2 pin are also the 440b stainless. I know a lot more can be said as there are many variations and part of the fun of collecting them. And the 10-3s fill the miniature knife desire. In our state 4" is maximum for carry so that precludes carrying my 1-8

Welcome to the group samc.
I use a mid 70's 10-3 as my everyday work carry. It is mid 70's because of the old style handle shape (Rosewood) and the Randall stamp is straight across. The angled stamp came in Mid-late 70's. By the way, I don't use the original sheath pictured with the knife, I use a sheath made for it offered on eBay, secondary market. Regards, Sam Last edited by samg; 02-24-2018 at 12:31 PM. |

Hi Sam, I like those 70's 10-3s and the sheath. I managed to get the sheath myself, although now I don't want to use it because its new. The knife wasn't.. that may need a trip back to RMK its a 80's single pin, great for peeling apples. almost looks like someone tried tossing it a few times or was really clumsy as the tip at a microscopic level is damaged and the but has a ding in the micarta. Probably try a drop of epoxy to stabilize that. Its an unusual looking pattern in the micarta and the ding looks like cloth at a microscopic level. I have another in fine shape I 'need' a micarta 10-3 70s flavor and rosewood.. wouldn't cry if it were stag dreaming I wonder if the snap sheath goes into the 80's? My nice one came in a pouch style sheath like most. My 4" is the snap sheath (style b)

Hmmm all my edited posts now with the images have vanished? attachments did become active but that seems to then make the posts vanish. Not very conducive to posting images. I will refrain from it then.

Hi Sam (c that is...)!
I'm not to sure what happened when you edited your posts, but rest assured that when you post in the future with attachments included, everything should be visible. Please don't refrain from posting and including your photos. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

One of them displayed a 'your post will not show till its moderated' or something like that, a few days ago. I'm seeing the images are stored, so my posts are sitting in moderation. Unfortunately I can't post outside of external links which doesn't make a lot of sense as external links are the bad, not images. Oh well. Did give it a try on a different browser too.

Hi Sam!
Very mysterious indeed... I see that your posts have been "moderated", but I have no idea by who. ?? I believe there is software on this site which blocks new members from adding attachments for a 24 hour period. It's an anti-spam protection. This could be an explanation, or perhaps it was bots from Macedonia... Anyway I'm sorry that this happened to your first photos. You can always re-post them in a new post. Fortunately all of your other Models 10's are still showing. I guess it's time to move on... Cheers! David P.S. I don't own any 10's so I don't think I can post any. __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

David, just my imput, on a couple of my past posts I had difficulty attaching photos.
I just started a new thread today with photos, and they all uploaded just fine. Don't know if the problem was related, but seems to be fine now. Regards, Sam |
