A couple of years ago, Dr. Lonny Holmes, ex-SF with 44 months in SE Asia, Vietnam, etc, asked me to write about Randall knives in Vietnam for his publication. Lonny is the editor of The Sentinel, the newsletter of Special Forces Association, S. California ,that is ultimately distributed to about 10,000 members of the Special Forces Association and other veterans groups. Lonny then encouraged me to write up the story of General Hal Moore's Randall, and published it in The Sentinel though the subject was not directly associated with SF (however, the article was very well received by the SFA members).
Lonny has a modest collection of Randall knives but wanted a personalized one. This is the result when Scott took Lonny's order under his wing. The handle is spalted Hormigo... Last edited by Jacknola; 10-22-2017 at 01:41 PM. |

That's a fine looking new knife!
On a side note, It looks like the other donation knife stalled out halfway there...... |

Picked up this fighter a few months ago. Dennis Reider was an Air Force air commando with 380 missions between 1957 and 1968. the only history I have is from his obituary, unfortunately. Given his rank inscribed on the blade, I would surmise he ordered this early in his career, dating this to 1957-58 era. Anyone who can add to the information on this one will be appreciated.

Very nice find Charlie. Airman 2nd class was before my time, Now buck Sargent.. that's some history in that knife.

Here is my one and only Model 1. Nickel silver hilt, with pretty pinned stag. I found the cool compass while cleaning out my fathers house. An oddity about this knife is the "extra" white spacer.
