First one done in a long time

Hello all,

Been a while since I got some time to get a blade done. I decided I was finally going to do one for myself. I used a piece of Devin Thomas HC ladder. Got to say that when it comes to dagger grinds ladder is the best. This is based on a Tim Hancock letter opener design that he was gracious to let me slaughter in an attempt to make a dress sgain dubh. I decided to go with ivory from a piece I had. I did use pins instead of inlaying the ivory. I don't have a mill and I wasn't up to trying it on the damascus.

The big thing that makes me bummed out is the blade warped from the grinding on only one side. I probably should have hardened first but I didn't even think about doing that since I work work most with S30V and the idea of grinding hardened S30V is terrifying.

Just got to get a sheath maker and hopefully I will be ready for the fair season.

Jim

Looks great Jim!

I'm slowly getting back into it myself. Still hard to find time with 2 little ones, but I have several on the bench.

Looks great Jim. As for grinding hardened S30V don't be concerned. I've been grinding S30V, hardened to Rc 61, for years. In fact, just this week I ground a dagger from S35VN which is even meaner than S30V (and no warp). I use fresh 3M 60 grit Cubitron belts and take my time. Not a problem ...

Thanks guys.

I may try the grinding after HT later but I got to say that it sounds like a lot of work cleaning up the grind marks

Hey Dwane. Hate to bring this up, did Terrill ever get you the pic?

Jim
