I've been doing that. And will continue to probably. It just re-cracks when I fire it up. I'm not too worried about it though but wanna keep an eye on it.

Cpt Jens,
Looking at your torch, it seems it's like the one's plumbers use for soldering. It may not be powerful enough for what you need. The heat probably escapes through the front port faster than it can build up inside. Try one of those torches roofers use to put on tar-and-gravel roofs. I use a tiger torch (same thing, I guess) - 300,000 BTU's get my forge glowing like a light bulb. Also, put something non-flammable under your torch as a support. It will get hot enough to light the wood. Even your rubber hose is a bit close to the neck of the torch. I have about two feet of half-inch pipe between the torch head and the propane hose, just in case. Wouldn't want to melt that...

All these forges we make - whether brick, or wool, or castable - all need constant repair. They crack, pieces melt off, spall, or burn away. etc. Don't worry too much about it, unless the crack is big enough to allow large amounts of heat to escape or to cause a safety hazard it really isn't much of a problem. You'll be surprised when you see just how crappy and beat up a forge and burner can look and still function just fine. Even electric furnaces are like that. My Paragon doesn't have a brick in it that hasn't been patched or cracked and held together with pins and the door is half made of furnace cement. Still works just as well as when it was new ...
