My uncle came by today and had picked this up at an auction.
Anyone have any info on it ? The inscriptions are "wac underground Christmas Frankfurt Germany 1946 " "12-25-46 Thelma Whitten Frankfurt Germany " He thought it was a letter opener oal 6-7 inches Thanks, jc __________________ IF YOU DON'T STAND FOR SOMETHING YOU'LL FALL FOR ANYTHING.... Commerative knife for, as it says, Underground Christmas which was an underground movement against Hitler and then again in East germany against communist rule. May be of some historical value, or just a cheap tourist knife. It would be worth getting appraised in my opinion. I could check around for you if you do not have time. With your permission.

Quote by Bernard Levine:
"It's a letter opener. It appears to be a party favor from a Christmas party put on by US Army WACs during the Occupation of Germany. December 25 was Christmas day. Still is." __________________ "Many are chosen, but few are Pict" "The doer alone, learneth" NT Neo-Devo Last edited by hammerdownnow; 07-17-2005 at 07:17 AM. |

I've got one, too!
I realize how old this particular thread is, but I'd like to add to it if I may.
I also have a letter opener inscribed, "WAC UNDERGROUND CHRISTMAS FRANKFURT GERMANY 1946." Unlike your uncle's, that's all it says. The other side of the blade is blank except for the letter "A" enclosed by a red circle. My question is, did you ever find out the value of this letter opener? I want to sell it, but don't know what it's worth or who might be interested in buying it. If you can help me, I'd appreciate it immensely. Keely |
