G10 questions

Am I imagining things, or does therte seem to be a wide variety of looks to G10? I got some black G10, and the weave looks like canvas micarta, but the sheen is closer to carbon fiber. I looked at some of the blue and silver G10 and it has a completely different weave to it...much coarser. I actually like the wider banded weave better. Does the black typically have different weaves depending who you get it from?

Also, what seem to be the best finish for it? I was going to wet sand to about 600 grit, then dry sand with 800. Will buffing make it look like crap after this, or does it polish up nice? I guess I'd probably rather go with a non-mirror polish.
