Just add heat, hammer, and a little effort........ at least with this 'kit" the maker has to put some of his/her skills into the product!

I think your onto something here. Maybe offer a version with handle material, for customizing...with a piece of wood "bonus points for bark still on it" and a nail or piece of wielding rod.

But seriously you would be surprised what us newbie knife makers would buy. Include a tutorial with it, and I might buy it myself.

Take it as it is..

[jest] I have purchased these kit knifes myself and truely have nothing but praise for their out of the box quality and completeness. The seller of these kits has invested much time and care to ensure the completeness of the kit. I garantee once the kit is finished people will just flock around you asking you to make them knifes out of these wonderfull kits....[/jest]

on a more serious note, that last part turned out to be true..

The HC spike was the basis for my first attempt at smithing.

That's how I got my start also, making spike knives using a little coal forge a horseshoer friend gave me. I made hundreds of them (really crude) in the late 80's to early 90's and sold them for next to nothing at in my gift shop part of my business. Still have several laying around that I trip on now and then.

Looks great Cauzomb! I used Nitre-blue on this one, about 530 degrees or so.

Bruce,
Now that depends...if they are from Guthrie, Kentucky then they are the "premium" kit since that is the origin of "Newbury Train Songs" that Waylon and Willie sang about in the song "Lukenbach, Texas". (Newbury sang a lot about Guthrie in a lot of songs although he was from Texas and later moved to Nashville.)

The price would vary according to the origin of where the spike was acquired!
