Certain technique, or photoshop?
I wonder... is there any certain technique to get a picture with clear knives and totally black background? I really like this effect but I have no clue how to take such a picture... here is a nice example by willhunt:

The easiest way is to shoot the knives on black velet. It can be done in photoshop but that is a lot of work that isn't needed. The more effects that can be done in the original shot, the better off you are.

Here's another way:

I use software to do it. Terrill's way is easier and works very well, except we have 4 cats and 3 of them are white and furry. Seems nothing in the house, no matter how carefully stored, is immune to white cat hair.

Hey PiterM. Appreciate the comment. I shot that pic using a plain black fleece sweater for a background, and used clone painting in Photoshop to get rid of the dust bunnies and other stuff that shows up in the final shot. Its amazing what the camera picks up when you view a 5 MP image at full size. And I know that sweater was just cleaned.
