refractory brick

Who can tell me where to buy refractory brick? I need a few to close off the mouth of my atmospheric propane forge.

Right now I just use it for HT and it works, but I wanna start pounding on steel and I need to up the heat a bit.

Gotta find some RR track or a cheap anvil too.

Glad you're thinking about forging some. A friend got an anvil from H.F. that he is very pleased with. It was made in Russia. From what I have heard avoid the one they have made in China. Reports are that the Russian anvil has a good hard face and is serviceable for someone starting out.

Any place that does fireplace repair will have fire bricks. Also chimney sweeps sometimes do repair also, they are usually glad to help.

Also try ebay...theres aplace called poor boys blacsmith tools that often has soft firebricks, kawool, satinite, etc...... Tough to beat Ellis for service, though....he hand wraps each soft firebrick in newsprint!

Get a bunch. I go through them, and have a number of slotted hunks that I use for holding blades during HT, tempting, etc....plus they tend to crack over use...
