Dyeing Rayskin...
I'm looking to start making some Japanese style knives with rayskin wrapped in tsuka-ito cord. Instead of buying a colored rayskin, and having a bunch of knives that color, I was thinking about buying a white full skin and dying some different colors, and keeping some white too...
How do you dye rayskin? Do you use a leather dye? How would you go about it? Thanks fellas. -Josh __________________ ....a nozh scrap any time you say |

im not sure, ive never tried. my guess would be the leather dye.
do you have a supplier for white rayskin already? i have some for colored skins but they dont carry white and i would like some. if you have a source and dont mind sharing it, i would appreciate it. |

Well... the thing is...I want a variety of different colors. I make really small neck type knives, and the tang wouldn't require too much of the rayskin I don't think (just been wrapping them with cord for now)
I wouldn't like it if I bought a whole skin that was red, and ended up with like....20 knives with red rayskin. I'd like to make some all differet kinds of colors, and keep some in some natural colors as well, just for variety. I'm thinking the way to do it, is to buy a white skin and cut off what I need, dye it the color I want, and have the rest of the white skin to use at my discretion. It's just that I really don't know how to treat/dye it... __________________ ....a nozh scrap any time you say |
