Contest?
I had an idea while I was making an axe earlier today.
My thought was why not have a monthly or bi-monthly contest among the knife makers on here?
I'm thinking it would be pretty easy to coordinate, have a standard list of materials, all uniform from the same supplier with a set limit for price.
The other reason that I think this would be a good idea is that it would provide a good skill building exercise and stretch abilities. In addition it would be a good way for novice knife makers to get into the hobby, especially if some of those participating photo blog the process they use for making their knives.
So thoughts?

I voted maybe. I certainly think that would be awesome. The problem is I only have a couple of knives under my belt, and it takes me a month or two to get one finished at this point. At some point if it would be practical for me to be a part of something like that I would love to.

My problem is the same as cbsmith111. It takes me awhile right now to get through a knife. If we set a later date to give more time, then I'm in. I would also like to include a sheath of some kind.

Quarterly or twice a year would be better. You could also coordinate with the annual KITH they set up.
Set a limit for price on materials or final value?

I was thinking a set limit on initial materials.
I can see how time constraints for such a contest would be problematic, extending the period between so there is a contest every 3-4 months seems reasonable.

I don't think that having all the materials come from the same supplier would be practical. But I do like the idea. What would the winner get?

I would go with quarterly. My experience with KITH's is that 3 month's is a push sometimes,

Bragging rights works lol. I would be able to go twice a year tops just because of how busy I am. But that's just me.

I'm always a fan of a KITH weather it's themed or not. And everyone's a winner. A contest would be tough because of the level of experience differences.

I voted maybe. I'm in agreement with the others. I think is a good idea, but I wouldn't be able to kick one a month out. Quarterly would be better for my time line. Who is going to judge? Is there a theme? Stainless or carbon? I'd hate to leave anyone out, but that's just me. I know it's another subject, but I love KITH's.
