Cowboy Spyderco

Hello, hope all yall are fine. I wanted to post pictures of my latest work. This is a Spyderco Byrd, meadowlark. I overlaid the handle with German Silver, and a copper overlay of "Steamboat" the famous bucking horse. Steamboat is the horse on the Wyoming ####### plates. The clip has a small concho made of silver with a small copper scroll. These small overlays are all cut by hand, as well as hand engraved in a western bright cut style. I make Iots of these knives, but this one is my personal one. I look forward to hearing from you soon, with comments, good bad or ugly.
Mike

Hello fellows, I hope this finds yall well. I do thank you for the kind words. I have been fortunate to be staying real busy, and looks like its going to get very busy building saddle hardware and cowboy gear.
Huck are you building some knives still? If so where are any pics posted at?

Beautiful knife, Mike!

I'm with Ron. I would love to be able to do cowboy engraving but can't seem to be able to pull it off. My studio is in the loft of my barn with the scent of horse manure just below me, so I have plenty of inspiration but I have pitched several practice plates out the window after trying unsuccussfully to wriggle out a passable backbone.

I believe good cowboy engraving is a lot like good impressionist art. In other words the best cowboy engraving indicates a classic scroll pattern without actually engraving much detail of the scroll. So the casual observer sees a scroll or a floral pattern but closer examination shows that the cutts are only an indication of a scroll or flower. Does this make sense or am I off my nut? Do you agree? If so, how do you know how and where to put down enough without getting caught up in defining all the details as in what you would do in 'fine' engraving? Any other advise you can offer for someone who wants to master this genre of engraving would be most appreciated.
Thank for posting.
