Bowie...
Ok, this is my first attempt at a Bowie, I got the guard cut out today and picked a nice axis antler for the handle. But while I was drilling the horn the drill bit just slightly broke through the out side of the bone, question is, what can I use to patch it? It's not a big hole, but its there!
I kept telling my self to stop, but I didn't ! The hole is right where the horn starts to bend.
Thanks guys!

One of my thoughts is to grind up some horn and mix in epoxy, yes or no?

Epoxy is the great hider of "boo boo's". You could go ahead and drill all the way through and put a mosaic pin. When it's cleaned up the right pin would look really cool.

That is one standard way to fix it. Mix up the epoxy and the sawdust from the antler and see if it looks OK, give it a try. If it doesn't look good, Plan B might be to cut a big chunk out of the antler where the hole is and then replace the chunk with something complementary like buffalo horn. Or, you could cut the antler in front of the hole and in back of the hole thus removing a disk of antler with the hole in it and replace that disk with wood or whatever. The idea being to convert a mistake into a design element.
That antler looks awfully long. I wish you had shown us where the hole is exactly. Maybe you could just cut off the entire front end of the antler and/or replace the front end with wood or buffalo horn so that it looks intentional. Just some of the many reasons I freakin' hate antler....

Is that little nick the hole? Looked like a blurry spot on the picture. Then yes, consider doing the pin like IM said, mosaic or not a handle like that should always have a pin anyway. I'd still cut off a lot of it if it is, in fact, over 5" long as it appears to be ....

Well, one way to save it is to segment the handle. It would shorten the handle and you'd loose a lot of the bend. But you could add some spacer material to dress it up.
If the hole was centered on the back you could place a mosaic pin (I saw one where a guy took a piece of cable in copper tubing and did it).

I know you probably don't want to lose that crown , but what about cutting it off at the hole and adding a pommel ?

Since I'm just going to keep this one I'm just going to patch the hole, plus I like the crown, this is just a practice knife anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
