muratic resist for damasteel

What is going to be the best way for me to mask off my pivot area on folder blades when etching in muratic acid. I hear nail polish does not work well. I have some tape that the texture people gave me when they texture our injection mold cavities, but have not tried it yet. Muratic is pretty nasty stuff. Any help appreciated.

Thanks again

i have used fingernail polish with 80% lab grade nitric acid with no problems. maybe the fingernail polish was the more expensive type rather than the 59 cent a bottle bright red generic nailpolish.

Nail polish works well for muratic acid. I've used it a few times and worked two out of three times. The reason it didn't work the first time is because I put it on in one thick coat. Someone, Geno I think, recommended using several thin coats and has worked well the other times.

You might want to also check out the Fine Embellishment forum as they had a discussion a little while back on resists for etching scenes into blades.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Thanks guys, I'll cut a little piece and give it a try. it's so easy and convienient to use nail polish, I was hoping it could be used with muratic also.
