motor

well my old 2 hsp motor off an air compressor has been giving me shocks through my smaller metal items while grinding . tried grounding in many different ways ,also tried anti static spray and a metal brush just above the belt . still getting shocks . im also hearing snapping noise from the motor. so i have a 1 hsp baldor motor lined up for $50.00 . i have read that 1 hsp is ok for grinding ?

Hell, for $50 I would try it! I have a 1.5HP Baldor and can bog it down on occasion, but I think that is mainly from a 100' long extension cord I use to grind out in my driveway. My house is old and a tinder box, so I have a cart I roll out and grind there.

If that 1HP Baldor doesn't work you can get some pillow blocks and a belt and make a very nice buffer with it. Good luck!

1 hp is all I have ever had for grinding. 2hp would surely be better when it comes to hogging metal but 1 hp will get the job done ...

1HP is fine. If you were grinding railway track I'd say more horsepower. I'd go for it. Just make sure it's okay and bearings aren't squealing or windings aren't humming in a strange way. If you ever *need* to go bigger motor down the road you can always sell off this one and get some money back.

my 2 cents.
