ss slip joint
i had tks ht my slip joint blade and spring but i can get any spring in the spring what can i do

Bill,
If your spring has the correct geometry but is too stiff then it may be the same hardness as the blade. Test it to make sure. If so then you can pull some of the hardness out of it until you get a spring temper. What steel did you use? Check the steel charts to see what tempering temp you need to achieve a spring temper for that particular steel. If you don't have an oven that will reach that temperature then you can use a torch and watch the color to take some of the hardness out of it until you reach a spring temper. Gary |
