One piece spear

Nice thing about getting old is you don't have to explain why you do the things you do. I finally have the spear I have wanted since I was 7 or 8 years old. It was forged from one solid piece of 3/4" 60 grade rebar. I still have a little forging to do to it but it won't change much now. Its right at 50".

Alan, Make sure you have some help if your going to use the 1" rebar. This 3/4" was plenty of work. Not so much forging the head but forging a taper was sure a lot of work. 1" would be pretty heavy to but it would stop a tank.

Gabe, ever since I popped my brother's bike tire with a 20 penny nail on a broom stick the need for a real spear has always been there.

Here's a detail shot of the grip. Its authentic........

Just thinking about trying to throw that spear makes my rotator cuff ache. That being said, I love it!

I have a 50 lb Star power hammer, that ought to do the trick.

Wonder if I could make a spear and mount it in a retractible tube under the front end of the truck, and use it to remove unsuitable ####### from the road in front of me...

going native

Ray, Great spear!! No hay bale is safe now. That manure pile just may pick itself up and dissapear during the night! Now a pic of Ray in the faux lepard one shoulder cave man suit with a chicken bone thru the nose. I'm needing some mental eye wash. Sorry Ray I've a runaway imagination. I really like spears to though. Feels like power in a primal sort of way. I've made one with a narrower willow leaf point with three chisled out barbs on each side of the shaft just behind the point. It's a copy of an African hunting spear. Needs a redoo though, the first draft was a little rough in execution. I'd like to do an assegai, it's a zulu weapon. It had a fairl short shaft, and an 18" long head. It was a very effective slash and thrust spear. Can anyone ever forget that scene in Zulu where all those hundreds of zulus stand out there doing that chant uuuuoo aaaaah then strike thear shields three times over and over with their assegais while the tension builds in the British compound?

Hey Marty, I know what you mean about the power of a spear. I feel it every time I touch it. Remember those spears in Zulu were probably made as props. I bet in real life you never saw two spears that looked alike.
