Another dagger
Here is another dagger using the compound grip technique I've been working on. This one is considerably bigger: 8 1/2 inch blade, 13 1/2 inch over all. Forged from W-1. The sheath is made from two pieces, a traditional molded pouch style and an embossed holster to allow the dagger to hang at a 45 degree angle. This was customary to allow the fighter to draw the dagger with the left hand when using a sword in the right. Although this is not a typical "main gauche", it is conceivable that it would have been carried in this manner. Hope you like it...

Beautiful knife! Can you tell what are each of the pieces that make up the handle?

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement, gentlemen. The handle is made up of the following: the center piece is black marble. Although it is called "black" it is actually more greenish with black veins. I bought a chunk off a stone mason who sells rock to sculptors. I cut it with a hack saw (hard work!). Lately I've been using a diamond blade on my angle grinder. Much faster, but very dusty. The marble is flanked by black leather spacers, followed by steel spacers, followed by black leather again. Then two layers of purple heart, followed by black leather again, then thicker stacked leather, and finally two caps made of cocobolo. It's all laminated thanks to epoxy glue. Polished, oiled and waxed, then polished again.
Have a very Merry Christmas, everyone! Chris __________________ Chris K. Two Mountains Forge Delta, BC, Canada www.twomountainsforge.com |
