matte black tactical style folder

i have a good friend that is a police officer..and has inquired a few times about getting a folder made for him as his work knife. he is getting married soon, so i would love to do one for him for his wedding gift from me....however he really wants it to be an all matte black knife....just wondering if anyone knows of anyone outlet selling matte black folder kits....or how i can get a stainless kit like the DDR3-BL to take on a black matte finish that stays...

thanks everyone

You could paint the stainless parts with Brownell's Moly Coat. That's a gun coating paint that sprays on, then you bake it in the oven at 300 F (instructions say 350F but I felt safer using 300 F for a little longer time). It works great and creates a very tough finish. Of course, it will still show wear and it can be scraped off just like the blue on his pistol or the anodizing on his Mag-Lite but it doesn't come off easily...

I haven't heard of any matte black finish yet that will actually stay on and not show some signs of wear. But, that being said, there are some finishes that last quite well.

Take Ray's advice. I've not used the moly coat, but I'm sure it works. I used some of Brownell's coating of some sort, can't remember which, about 15? years ago. It worked quite well, but couldn't hold up to heavy use without getting scratched pretty bad. But just for skinning or whittling wood, or something of that nature it worked quite well.

I'm sure they have improved by leaps since then. So go with Ray's advice.!
