At the flea market

Hello,
Just wanted to share a little find.
Last friday morning I went to the flea market in Li?ge, Belgium, and I bought for 25 EURO, 14 pages of Diderot encyclopaedia, printed in old french and explaining various engraving techniques, with 9 plates. The date is 1767.
I join a picture of one of these plates.

Francis?.what a great find. My guess is the copy rite is up on that book. It would be nice to reproduce it or at least some of the engravings.
Not much has changed with the graver designs?just the tools to drive them. Lindsay and GRS and others have brought us into a new age of metal scratching.
We would love to see more prints when you have time.
Thanks for sharing your discovery.
Jim

Does anyone know what those large square devices are hovering over the workers? Are they light diffusers for the sunlight from the windows or mirrors to catch more light? Thanks

If you like this old book of engraving, you can download it here (it?s free, but its weight is 12, 5 Mo) click on ?telecharger? for downloading .

Sorry, it?s in French, but not very hard to understand if you look only the drawings.

It means:
"The document that you've asked for is not accessible." Sort of like a 404 message. Keep trying, I got it to load the other day.

Hi Francis

Thank you very much for that download. What a facinating book. Even though I can't read the text I can certainley understand the pictures and some of them are quite informative.

Again, thanks for that. Much appreciated.

Best regards
Andrew Biggs
