Kits arrived
A few of my "Kits" arrived today. Overall, not bad at all. The handles were suppose to be stabilized, but I'm pretty sure they aren't. No complaints, I have a box of wood that needs sent out for stabilizing, so I can get it done. I've been collecting wood since 1999.
I am wondering why they made that front pin hole in such an odd way. I'll have to drill another one for my needs. There won't be much to do except handle these up. Good practice since I've been out of the game so long! I have some nice bone coming in from Culpeppers that will make it zing! |

Ya, that wood doesn't look stabilized, at least not professionally stabilized. They might have put wood hardener or something on it.
They make that front hole like that to allow for some slop in the assembly. Commercial kitchen knives usually have that. That way, if you drill a hole in your handle material for the rear pin or bolt the hole you drill for the front pin will still work even if it is off by a few thou. That saves them money keeping them from having to discard too many poorly prepared handle slabs... |

I got another shipment in today. Same company on eBay as last time. This time, I'm not happy at all. It looks like someone just threw them in the box and stuffed some paper on top! I have deep scratches on a couple, also the workmanship on the bolsters isn't the best.
It's not like I payed a lot, but for 70+ dollars, they could have packed it better. Last edited by Anthony Chaney; 11-03-2012 at 04:47 PM. |

Be kind to the rest of us Kitmeisters and clue us in to which Ebay'er it is so we don't fall into the same trap?
(Yes, Admiral, I know it's a trap, thank you.) |
