Harder handle spacers?
Do I need something harder than just the leather in a stacked handle? I have the butt cap and I have the guard on the front of the tang. Would I need something harder to keep the knife sturdy?

Usually, the leather pieces are slathered heavily with epoxy or soaked in resin to harden the handle. If you're going to make a leather handle you should try a Search to see what others have to say about the process....

The tutorials I've read have suggested to have something hard on both ends. You could use bone or wood spacers on each end.
