1084 Sheepsfoot with simple filework!

here it is. im doing the best i can to salvage this attempt at learning to grind free hand!
it ended up being a convex grind even if its a ugly one lol. its 7" long
still learning filework and i figured the blade was toast anyways so nothing to lose i went ahead and went all the way around the handle with a simple pattern. Its ready for HT now.

marked it of in 1/4 sections

just went to work

the one on the end came out UGLY lol one more lesson learned.

got the holes drilled

Thumbs up

That's looking good Hondo.
A wharncliffe/sheepsfoot has been on my to-do list since I started knifemaking. My Dad is a WWII Navy vet and that design lends itself to sailing if I'm not mistaken.
Keep up the good work!

My understanding is a wharncliff has a more gradual taper/slope down to the point and edge.
A sheepfoot is more abrupt around 45* angle/slope or more.....shape of a sheep's foot.

Hondo, spend more time learning the ins and outs of finessing your grinds and finish on the blade. The file work will follow with no issues. Yeah, more fun to do, but true craftsmen save the embellishment for when the real work is completed. The only way you will get to the point of making a finished knife like the ones you admire here on KNF is through discipline to finish each step completely before moving on to the next. Once you develope that discipline the world's your onion. You show decent eye for design just sharpen your focus a little.

You are absolutely right. Thanks for the Advice. These knives so far I have not taken very serious. The one I'm going to begin work on Soon for the KITH will be a different story. Gonna step up my game and try to make this one something anybody would be proud to carry on there belt!

Also are those 1x30s decent for doing finishes after its ground?

Hondo, here's a sneaky finishing trick I discovered.

Know those floor buffing pads for waxing? The coarse ones used to strip wax.
They work great for doing your semi final finish, just trim to bench grinder size and go for a slow (750-1000rpm) speed.
Try it, dare you.
