Heat Treat Sandvick 13c26
Anyone have a good heat treating recipe for 13C26? I'm also looking for the optimal RC for use with a kitchen knife.
Thanks Bill |

I tried , unsuccessfully, to find info on the Sandvik website. It doesn't have all that much carbon so you probably would be looking for 58-60 HRc .

It doesn't have a lot of carbon, but most of it goes into solution. I go for 63 Rc on my kitchen knives, and I would recommend to anyone to go for at least 62 Rc, and if you can get it harder than I can I would do it, because at 63 Rc it doesn't show any brittleness.

I use 1925F for 15 minutes, with cryo, and temper at 300-400F, depending on final hardness. A 300F temper comes out about the same hardness as you get as quenched.
